How to use a USB Flash Drive as RAM in Windows XP

Tech With Dinjin201 – Tech Tips – Episode 1: Here, i will show you how to use a USB Flash Drive as RAM… A few Notes about this: 1. Flash memory can only be written to an x number of times (about 10 million rewrites). this means that after 1-2 years, your “flash-ram” will stop working, and you will have to buy another memory stick… 2. The second thing i wanted to mention is that you need to use ATLEAST a 512 MB Flash Drive for this. I know i used a 128 MB one in the video, but that’s all i had empty for the moment… and as you saw, it didnt do much. 3. Good Luck, Please subscribe, and all comments are appreciated. Does this actually act as ram or virtual memory cause there’s a big difference between the two.

@itsgibbinz13 Your computer is trying to boot from USB and there is no bootable files on the USB so you get a black flashing screen. Go into your BIOS settings and make sure your hard drive is before the USB drive in the boot order. Also keep in mind that this only works if your computer is running out of ram and accessing virtual memory because the flash drive has a higher access speed than your HDD.

@dinjin201 some sticks have a sort of operating system on them and if you leave it plugged in while trying to start your computer it is recognized as a boot disk, which doesn’t work. just plug it in after you power up.
