Is there a specific motherboard or motherboard vendor that oficially supports Linux?

I am using Ubuntu 8.04

The motherboard needs to support AM2 (AM2+ isn’t important) At leat 4GB DDR2 800 RAM and an nVidia GeForce 8600GT 512MB

I want a motherboard that I will be able to set up all my components and hopefully have no problems what so ever. Is there a motherboard that has been proven to do that?

google "motherboard DDR2 800 linux" and see what comes up! That is guaranteed to get you a lot more information than random opinions generated here.

Go for the ASUS P5N1 Rider.

    All motherboards support Linux…per se.

A motherboard simply holds the parts that make your computer up together, and doesn’t care if you’re running Windows, Linux or Mac OS. (However, in the last case, I believe you actually need specific Mac circuits for the OS to run.)

However, if you’ve been having issues…my advice would be to find an Ubantu tech forum and post the question there.

    Good Luck!

Any good motherboard will run without problems, and all x86 motherboards (Intel and AMD processors) will run Linux. You’ll have to download at least the driver for the video card – I don’t think Linux supports the full range of modes in even the 8600 (I know it doesn’t for the 8800). You’ll most likely come up in 800 X 600 (my 8800, with the nVidia driver, runs at 1440 X 900 – the maximum the monitor can handle).

If you’re going to use wireless networking, that’s another issue – Linux supports some cards, you have to use ndiswrapper and the Windows driver for others.
