USB 3.0 vs. USB 2.0 Speed Test at GIGABYTE with new UD6 mobo

www.tweaktown.com Earlier this week we visited the GIGABYTE headquarters here in Taipei and visited them to check out some USB 3.0 versus USB 2.0 performance numbers. GIGABYTE bought a Buffalo branded USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure and hooked it up to its new P55A-UD6 motherboard which comes complete with USB 3.0 support, powered by a new NEC controller. GIGABYTE installed a Kingston SSD inside the Buffalo enclosure and we ran some tests. First of all we show you standard Windows file copy performance and then we fire up HD Tach and run the numbers comparing the new SuperSpeed USB technology against the now aging USB 2.0. @cjewelz actually they do….thats what the whole video is about. they dont. its like saying people with usb 1.1 ports using a usb 2.0 flash drive. it will still perform at 1.1 speeds. you could have answered your question with a google search instead of commenting on a youtube video. just sayin…..

  4. cjewelz says:

Why doesn’t anyone address whether a USB 3.0 device can run at the new high speed on a USB 2.0 device? People still have the old 2.0 devices like PS3.

@gamerplay No, he’s right, copying smaller files typically reduces copy speed.

@eenbox That is stupid it doesnt matter how many files u transfer is matters on how much gb if any you are transferring. Your logic is wrong.

te juro que no entendi este video , cual era el 2.0 y cual el 3.0 , encima en chino …..

  18. chancey1979 says:

@eenbox I would have to disagree with you. I transfer large files quite often . So large VOB type files IS what matters to me. Everybody uses computers for many different reasons. Not just to transfer mp3 songs which i also do.

How about installing Kingston Hyper X Memory and re-doing the tests?

My 2.5″ external USB 2.0 hard drive transfers files at a constant speed of 54MB/s with my internal drive in my laptop which still has DDR2 memory.

It has nothing to do with which type of drives. It is the MEMORY!

  24. BroknSircut says:

fuck usb 3.0. Gonna wait for lightpeak…

  25. CoOlF1r3 says:

the HDD speed slows down usb3.0
    3.0 is 10 times faster then 2.0
